Power Platform: Delete automatically inactive Microsoft Dataverse for Teams environments

Microsoft Dataverse for Teams is a powerful platform that allows teams to create and manage their own data storage and management environments. However, over time, these environments can become cluttered and unused, which can lead to security risks and inefficiencies. To address this issue, Microsoft has introduced a new feature that will automatically delete inactive Dataverse for Teams environments after a certain period of time.

This new feature, known as the “Automatic Deletion of Inactive Environments,” will help teams to maintain a clean and secure environment by automatically deleting inactive Dataverse for Teams environments that have not been accessed for a specified period of time. This feature will be available to all users of Dataverse for Teams, and will be enabled by default.

How it works

The feature will work by first identifying inactive environments, which are those that have not been accessed for a period of time. The default period of inactivity is set to 180 days, but administrators can change this value to suit their needs. Once an environment has been identified as inactive, it will be marked for deletion. Administrators will receive a notification email 30 days before the environment is due to be deleted, giving them the opportunity to take action if necessary.

If the environment is not accessed during the 30-day notification period, it will be permanently deleted. Once an environment has been deleted, all data associated with it will also be permanently deleted. It is therefore important that administrators take action if they receive a notification email, to ensure that any important data is backed up or moved to a new environment.

Overall, the Automatic Deletion of Inactive Environments feature is a useful addition to Dataverse for Teams that will help teams to maintain a clean and secure environment. By automatically deleting inactive environments, teams can ensure that their data is protected and that their environments are running efficiently. However, it is important for administrators to be aware of the feature and to take appropriate action if necessary, to avoid losing any important data.
