The third day at #ESPC14 went by and it was the last day at Barcelona. This day provides a lot of sessions again but the best session was the keynote.
KeyNote 3 Attractive & Collaborative Business Intelligence with MS Power BI and SharePoint by Rafal Lukawiecki
Again Rafal shows how cool Power BI can be. He demonstrated connecting your own data from SQL database or SP list and connect it with data from marketplace(for free) to make beautiful charts and it does not matter how many rows there are, the response does not take long. He also demonstrated the usage of maps (Bing) with your data. Those examples were all really cool, but the best came at the end when he opens Office 365 with BI portal and just types a question into the search field like “sales data vs. population in USA” and the result was a nice diagram. It’s like Siri for people wants to use BI. Great Session.
Session: Using Javascript Templates to customize the SharePoint 2013 by Chris o’Brien
The Javascript can be used in Office 365 and On-Premise and it is possible to use it in a Visual Studio, using SharePoint Designer and the CSWP or CEWP too.
It’s possible to change the processing outcome of listviews, listforms, webparts by using the jslink. This is a reference to a javascript file which processes the outcome of fields. You have to register the js code but the details are available in the blog of chris.
Another aspect is the Display Templates for content search webpart, search hover panel, refinement panel and the list callouts. That was really cool to know that you can change so many things with some javascript. I recommend to read those post.
Resumee After three days of many sessions, talks, lots of information and much walking and standing I am happy to come home with lots of ideas and things I want to do. But not only that – I am sure I found some possible solutions for my customers business needs. All in all it was a fantastic conference with awesome people and hey, “SharePoint does not matter, people matter”!
It was nice meeting you guys, hope you had a save trip home and enjoyed the conference days. Hope to See you soon again.
Jacob
