Not allowed to load local resource in Microsoft Edge

Edge Chromium
Edge Chromium

Microsoft Edge browser throws the error in console “Not allowed to load local resource…” if you click on a link which refers to a file from fileshare. For example if you have SharePoint OnPremise and indexed a fileshare. The result page is full of links to those local resources.

IEMode as Possible solution

Microsoft’s Edge has therefore a solution which works like a workaround. The Edge Browser has an IE Mode. You can read everything about it here.

IE mode on Microsoft Edge makes it easy to use all of the sites your organization needs in a single browser. It uses the integrated Chromium engine for modern sites, and it uses the Trident MSHTML engine from Internet Explorer 11 (IE11) for legacy sites.

Therefore you have to configure via Policy the specific sites which should use the IEMode, all other sites will render as modern web sites.
