Developing a SharePoint 2010 Service Application

Session from Paolo Pialorsi.

Service Applications are the new feature of SP 2010. In MOSS 2007 it was called the shared service provider, what now is the Service Applications, a middle-tier service across server farms to share data, running long term processes and complex processes.

Service Applications have to be deployed on a server farm and running on a application server. You should avoid using Service Applications in case of sharing data across Sites in the same Web Application / Site Collection, cause the development is not that easy.

Paolo gave insights his development project of a Service Application in Visual Studio 2010. It was really interesting to see how the project has to be setup and what you have to use in coding.

In the end it was a nice overview for starting development of Service Applications. Thanks to Paolo.
